17th Century Mortuary Sword
Out of stock
Description
Here we have a delightful mortuary hilted sword typical of those used in the English civil war. The mortuary hilted sword is famous for being used by both sides in the civil war and being part of the evolution from the medieval arming sword to the full basket hilt of the 18th and 19th century. This example appears to have been an excavated or river found piece in good condition all things considering for its age and use, the sword has the incredibly beautiful etched pommel and basket seen in so many swords of the type. The blade is long and well tapered leading me to believe this is a dragoons variant.
