Description

Original US Great War Knuckle Knife Trench Dagger

A First World War trench knife or push dagger with a 16cm pointed double edged blade marked 'Au Lion' beneath a recumbent lion with one piece brass grip with knuckle duster guard and steel pommel, stamped US 1918 to the handle, 28cm overall. These are very hard to find, and are rarely available.

Trench knives, also called knuckle knives, were created to use in close quarters combat, during W.W.I, when the fighting was taking places primarily in the trenches. They became important weapons in a style of warfare that depended on overtaking an enemy’s trench line. Both the Allied and Axis forces continued to use them during W.W.II and improved on the original design as we have continued to do today.

*Condition*

Both the handle and blade are uniformly pitted, but the US1918 and makers mark AU Lion and logo are still visible, this is entirely in keeping with the age and life of this item. Please See the pictures.
