~ Boxed Astra Twin Pom Pom Gun ~
The gun predominantly consists of green-painted metal, featuring a notably hefty circular cast base. The majority of its construction comprises shaped sheet metal, with elements such as the central pillar, vertical tilting mount, main barrel covers, ammunition box lid, and shoulder support left in their bare metal state. Operated by a spring mechanism, this gun propels metal (or homemade wooden) cylindrical rounds. These rounds are gravity-fed from the ammunition box by rotating the handle. A sophisticated system of springs and rods propels the projectiles through twin internal barrels, while longer external sleeves extend and retract, creating the illusion of explosive recoil. The firing handle connects to a shaft with two “pedals,” each corresponding to a gun barrel. These pedals are offset by 180 degrees, causing the guns to fire and recoil alternately. Towards the rear of the gun, there is a curved component reminiscent of a shoulder rest used by gunners when aiming through the sights on the actual firearm. A tin of pellets is included. The set was issue just after WW2.
~ Condition ~
Please refer to the images for the condition. The barrel of the right hand gun needs to be stuck back in place to work, the left hand barrel works fine.
