Description

*British, 1899-1902, Boer War, Queens South Africa Medal with two clasps Natal & Orange Free State, (Number & Name filed off) Gloucs Rgt.*

A Queens South Africa Medal with two Clasps comprising Natal and Orange Free State to (Number & Name mostly filed off) number might be 3421 Pte. C. Gloucs Rgt.

The Queen’s South Africa Medal is a British campaign medal awarded to British and Colonial military personnel, as well as civilians in official roles, for service in the Second Boer War from 11 October 1899 to 31 May 1902. It includes twenty-six clasps indicating participation in specific actions and campaigns.

Clasps:
NATAL (11 October 1899 – 11 June 1900). For service in Natal where no clasp for a specific action in Natal or the Cape of Good Hope, nor the "Cape Colony" clasp, had been received.
ORANGE FREE STATE (28 February 1900 – 31 May 1902): For service in the Orange Free State without a specific action clasp.

The obverse features a crowned and veiled effigy of Queen Victoria facing left with the inscription “VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX.” The reverse, designed by G. W. de Saulles, shows Britannia holding the Union Flag and a laurel wreath, with troops marching inland from the coast in the background, and two men-of-war ships on the left. The top perimeter reads “SOUTH AFRICA.”

The Gloucestershire Regiment, often known as the Glosters, served as a line infantry regiment in the British Army from 1881 to 1994. On October 1899, 1st Battalion joined the Boer War (1899-1902), fighting in Cape Colony and Natal, including the Defence of Ladysmith (1899-1900).

*Condition*
