Georgian 5th Dragoon Guards Officer’s Full Dress Mameluke in super condition by Hamburger Rogers & Co London. Bright gilt hilt with engraved decoration and bone grips. The blade maker marked with watered pattern and clip back point and contained in green leather covered scabbard with excellent engraved gilt mounts matching the hilt. The 5th Dragoon Guards guards are known to have carried this pattern of sword and it is referred to in The British Cavalry Sword by Richard Dellar page 114.
The 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards was a British army cavalry regiment, officially formed in January 1686 as Shrewsbury’s Regiment of Horse. Following a number of name changes, it became the 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Regiment of Dragoon Guards in 1804. In 1922, it was amalgamated with The Inniskillings (6th Dragoons) to form the 5th/6th Dragoons. Its’ history and traditions continue today in the Royal Dragoon Guards, an armoured cavalry unit of the British Army.

Overall the sword is in excellent condition. The ivory grip is in good condition with signs of service related wear and tear. The scabbard has some dents and marks and the shagreen leather is coming away from the wood base before the brass tip. The Scabbard fits the sword firmly.
