This is a substantial, fully functional English Bowie knife. Such large Bowies were often displayed in cutlery shop windows to attract attention and advertise their products. The knife features an 18″ blade with thick wooden scales secured to the full tang by five brass rivets and a heavy cast brass finger guard. The impressive 11″ blade, is 6mm thick and 8.5 cm wide at its broadest point. Although functional, this Bowie was probably not intended to be carried and is correctly without a scabbard.
