Description

*British, Victorian, General Officer’s 1831 Pattern Mameluke Sword& Scabbard with Dress Knot, by Nathan*

A piece in excellent condition, regulation hilt with dress knot.

The Pattern 1831 sabre for General Officers is a British army pattern sword prescribed for the use of officers of the rank of major-general and above. The sword is hatchet-tipped blade etched with foliage, the general’s device of crossed baton and sword and the monogram of Queen Victoria all within an arabesque panel and the left side also bearing the retailers mark ‘Nathan, Tichbourne St, London’. The ivory pistol-grip hilt is fixed by one florally carved rivet and one plain rivet on either side with lined knot-hole to pommel and complete with its lozenge profile polished brass scabbard with twin loose suspension rings.

*Condition*
Overall the sword is in excellent condition with very clear engravings. The ivory grip is in good condition with signs of service related wear and tear. The polished brass scabbard has some dents and marks but still works well and fits tightly. The cord sword-knot is in good aged condition. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
