*British, WW1, Webley Mark VI .455 Service Revolver, dated 1918, with matching serial numbers, with leather holster and inerts. Deactivated.*
This 1918 Webley Mk VI revolver, crafted at the peak of World War I, stands as a remarkable testament to the artistry of British firearm manufacturing and an iconic emblem of that era. It is a classic first world war officers revolver demonstrating the meticulous attention to detail and high-quality standards that earned it favor among British military personnel on the front lines. Featuring a six-round, top-break action and firing a potent .455 caliber round, the Webley Mk VI embodies the firepower and effectiveness upon which British soldiers heavily relied.
Serial number 371679 marked on the chamber and twice by the trigger guard. .455″, with 6″ barrel length. Marked “Webley & Scott Ltd, Birmingham” on the top of the barrel. “Webley Mark VI Patents 1918” on the frame. Multiple war arrows and proof marks. “S” on either side of the base of the grip signifying a military grip of small thickness.
The lineage of Webley service revolvers began with the adoption of the Mk I in 1887, and the Mk IV gained prominence during the Boer War of 1899–1902. However, it was the Mk VI, introduced in 1915 amid the wartime demands, that became the most renowned model. In 1887, the British Army sought a replacement for the largely unsatisfactory .476 Enfield Mk I & Mk II revolvers, and Webley & Scott, renowned for their high-quality firearms, submitted the .455 caliber Webley Self-Extracting Revolver for trials. The military was suitably impressed, and it was officially adopted on November 8, 1887, as the “Pistol, Webley, Mk I.” The Webley revolver underwent several iterations, culminating in the Mk VI, which was manufactured from 1915 to 1923.
