~ Circa 1860’s Single Draw Telescope By Keen & Frodsham Of Liverpool ~
A single draw telescope made by the marine suppliers Keen & Frodsham dating to circa 1860.
The telescope is made of brass with a black leather cover.
On the draw tube, near the eyepiece, is engraved the manufacturers name of ‘Keen & Frodsham, South Castle St, Liverpool’.
The telescope is complete with its protective end cap, sunshade and eyepiece slide.
~ Dimensions ~
The telescope is 33 inches (84cm) long with a maximum tube diameter of 3 inches (7.5cm).
The piece is 43 inches (109cm) when fully deployed. It weighs 2.143kg.
~ Condition ~
The telescope is in fair condition. There is some slight tainting to the brass. The leather is very worn with significant loss. The telescope is still functional and is in a good working order with a good focus.
~ Keen & Frodsham ~
Robert John Keen and Henry Frodsham opened their firm in 1856 on 17 South Castle Street, Liverpool. Most noted for making and selling marine chronometers and nautical scientific instruments they also made telescopes as well as other nautical equipment.
