~ Circa 1897 William Moorcroft For James MacIntyre Aurelian Ware Lidded Bonbonnierre ~
This delightful lidded twin handled piece was used to house small sweets for visitors.
It is back stamped for MacIntyre and has a pattern number of 192948. As it is a very early piece for Moorcroft, it is unsigned.
~ Aurelian Ware ~
William Moorcroft was employed by Staffordshire pottery manufacturers James Macintyre & Co. Ltd. as a designer in 1897, and after a year he was responsible for the company’s art pottery studio.
William Moorcroft created designs for the MacIntyre’s Aurelian Ware range of high-Victorian pottery, which had transfer-printed and enameled decoration in bold red, blue and gold colours.
~ Condition ~
The piece is in excellent order with a few minor nibbles to the underside of the base from standing wear. The gilding is superb.
~ Dimensions ~
The bonbonnierre is 22 cm (8.5 inches) tall and 16 cm (6.25 inches) across the handles.
