~ c1900 Royal Naval Officers Cased Bicorn ~
A fine Royal Naval officers bicorn with original tin belonging to a D. Errington R.N. dating to around 1900.
The plush bicorn is decorated with a black pleated silk cockade to one side and has bullion coils to either end.
It has a pleated blue silk lining with a cream leather head band.
The bicorn has a makers label of ‘Larcom & Veysey’ outfitters of Queen Street, Portsmouth. According to sources Larcom & Veysey operated in Queen
Street from 1887 until 1905.
The bicorn comes in its original tin with a plaque to the front reading ‘D. Errington, R.N.’.
~ Dimensions ~
The bicorn measures 42cm (16 ½ inches) fore to aft with a height of 16 cm (6 ¼ inches) and width of 17cm (6 ¾ inches). Its inner dimensions measure
15cm (6 inches) by 20 cm (8 inches).
The tin has a width of 47cm (18 ½ inches), a depth of 19.5cm (7 ¾ inches) and a height of 19cm (7 ½ inches).
The set weighs 1.7 kg.
~ Condition ~
The bicorn is in a very nice condition with only a little wear to the lower edges but no tearing or damage. The interior is generally good but with a few
holes to the leather band (possibly moth damage) and one hole to the silk.
The tin is rather worn to the exterior with paint loss and a few minor dents, but is clean to the interior (with just a few dings).
