~ Charles Perry Black Japanned And Lacquered Brass Monocular Microscope ~
Produced by Charles Perry, this microscope has the makers mark to the top and is numbered no.7256. We would date it to around 1920.
The microscope is housed in a mahogany case with one ocular and one eye piece. The microscope comes with a rack & pinion and screw focusing, a wheel of three lenses (one blank), a mechanical stage and a plano concave mirror.
Included in the box are two empty brass canisters with screw covers and a canvas roll containing tweezers, scalpels and more.
The manufacturers guarantee has been pinned to the door.
Charles Perry was the foreman of Powell & Lealand who ceased manufacturing microscopes in 1901, after which he went to work for C. Baker of High Holborn and later started up himself as Charles Perry of 41, Northolme Road, Highbury, North London. Whether he had his own factory or had instruments made to his specification by Watsons is unclear.
