This is a superb original naval officer’s sword. Gold plated brass hilt, white fish-skin handle and etched blade. The bottom of the blade is marked Manton and Co. England but there is no date. In the etching on the blade, there is no royal cipher, which makes the sword difficult to date. The blade etching is crowned, and this is the crown used by Edward VII, George V and George VI. It is most probable that the sword was made between 1901 and 1952.
*Condition*
This sword is in excellent condition with only minor blemishes on the blade, and the handle complete with the wire binding. Much of the fine detail is beautifully preserved form the blade to the handle. The scabbard is also in good condition. The brass is well preserved and undamaged. The leather on the other hand is mostly well preserved except for some suspected repair work at the end of the scabbard. Please refer to the images as apart of our condition report.
