~ Inert British First World War No. 24 Mk 1 Rifle Grenade ~

The No 24 is essentially a No 20 with a less sensitive percussion cap and refined ammonite that does not corrode the brass parts of the grenade.

Even then, there were still some improvements that could be made, and in 1918 the No 35 was introduced.

There are two variants of the No 24, the Mk I and II. The Mk I uses the No 20 Mk II’s body, while the Mk II is uses a cast iron body that has no external grooves.

The grenade body is made of metal, its fittings of gilded copper and the stick of steel.

There are no other marks except two broad arrows on the brass filling plug screw.

~ Dimensions ~

The grenade length is 15.5 inches (39.3 cm) and it weighs 460 grams.

~ Condition ~

The grenade is in fair condition for its age.

Most of the gild finis has gone and the body developed a certain amount of pitting.

The stick is rusty.
