~ Large Silver Vinaigrette c1906 ~
A lovely silver vinaigrette dating to 1906.
The piece is of rectangular form, made of simple plain silver. It is quite large for a vinaigrette measuring 3 inches in length.
It has a hinged lid which when opened reveals a gilt pierced and engraved hinged grille. The inside of the lid and base also have a gilt finish.
The piece is hallmarked to both the lid and base for London silver with a date of 1906.
~ Dimensions ~
The vinaigrette measures 7.7cm (3 inches) in length with a width of 4.5cm (1 ¾ inches) and a depth of 2cm (¾ of an inch).
It weighs 66.2g.
~ Condition ~
There is a small mark and an area of darkened silver to the underside but these do not really affect the look of the piece. The hallmarks are a little worn;
they can still be mostly read but the makers mark is difficult to make out. The lid closes but is not tight. Aside from these minor things the vinaigrette is in a very nice condition with no damages and just light surface wear from age and use.
