Description

The mace is a very interesting and rather rare Khanda hilted mace found in India and used in combat in the 18th and 19th century, this is an extremely well presented one with silver plating and gilt on the guard and handle.

The shaft is made of twisted iron and the head is of a welded flanged construction with an end spike.

This piece would have been a wonderfully extravagant military piece that is as deadly as it is beautiful.

The real feature of this Indian mace is the hilt, this Khanda hilt is the Indian form of the basket hilt and this one has a reinforced bar and its original woven pad to keep the hand away from the metal, the basket has been gilt and the grip has been silver plated. The tang runs clean through the grip extending for a further handhold and for stability of the mace.

The metal has aged very well and has a beautiful patina showing its age gracefully.

~ Dimensions ~

The mace is 35 inches (89 cm) long.

The guard is 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) long.

The mace weighs 1.63 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The mace is in good condition for its age with some minor surface pitting from rust and a deep brown patina. The mace retains most of its gilt and there is some parts of the silver on the grip that has flaked off.

The mace has a nice aged patina and some pitting from surface rust.

ref. GS7344742 / MLACOOPZXYTSG
