~ Victorian German Badische Uhrenfabrik Oak Bracket Clock ~
A lovely oak bracket clock by the German maker Badische Uhrenfabrik dating to the late 1800’s / early 1900’s.
The Badische Uhrenfabrik (Badische Watch Factory) was a German watch manufacturer founded in 1889 and based in Furtwangen in the Black Forest area of Germany.
By 1900 sales of clocks had reached worldwide and the company had its own branches in London, Milan, Zurich, Bombay and Hong Kong.
This fine example has an oak case of an architectural style with cabriole style columns to either side of the dial, a decorative carved pediment surmounted with three turned finials and a plinth base raised on four feet.
The clock has a silvered dial set on a brass back-plate with gilt brass applied decoration to the four corners and centre of the dial.
The dial has Roman numeral hours with engraved decoration between, an outer minutes ring and two steel hands.
The dial is covered by a hinged glazed door.
To the rear of the clock is a door for access to the movement.
The movement’s back-plate is stamped with the mark for ‘Badische Uhrenfabrik’ of a crescent moon with an upper case ‘B’ within. It is also stamped with the numbers ‘34136’ and ‘85’.
There are two original labels pasted to the rear of the clock, one of which from a company based in Liverpool and one of which is hand dated for 18/05/(19)08.
The clock is complete with winding key.
~ Dimensions ~
The clock has a width of 34cm (13 ½ inches) a depth of 19.5cm (7 ¾ inches) and a height of 57cm (22 ½ inches).
It weighs 5.47 Kg
~ Condition ~
There looks to be missing a small hook or similar from the back, which would have stopped the rear door from swinging open.
There are a couple of light marks here and there but nothing significant, merely age wear.
The clock is otherwise in very nice condition.
The clock has recently been serviced and is in working order.
