~ Pre 1973 Royal Navy Officers Uniform Jacket ‘
This is what appears to be a mid 21st century Royal Navy Officers No. 1 Jacket.
We have a label and we know the name of the owner as this jacket was tailored to him, it was made for a P. A. Roberts as part of his numbered Navy uniforms.
The Jacket is a double breasted dark Navy Blue reefer jacket or pea coat with a black liner and a white/cream liner on the sleeves, a relatively modern style and in very good condition tailored by Owen Uniforms.
The date of the jacket can be placed to before 1973, the time when the button maker, Gaunt of Birmingham, was bought out by Firmin.
The markings on the jacket are all on the label and the back of the buttons, the makers on the buttons read ‘Gaunt’, ‘Birmingham’.
The markings on the label on this inside of the right breast of the jacket are ‘R.N. JACKET’, ‘80690’, ‘NAME. ROBERTS P.A.’, ‘O/NO. SL33A/2434’, ‘OWEN UNIFORMS BRITISH MADE’.
Then there are the tailoring measurements (refer to the pictures included) and a hand written name.
~ Dimensions ~
The length of the outer sleeve is 25 inches.
The length from the collar to tail of the jacket is 30 inches.
The distance between armpits is 18 inches.
It weighs 1.070 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The jacket is in good condition, it isn’t old enough to have had serious wear and appears to have minimal damage, there are a few small holes behind the right pocket, a small tear on the inside of the left breast lining and one on the right lapel.
