The Sigma is Smith & Wesson’s venture into using synthetic materials in gun construction, using high-strength polymer material for the frame. The pistol is similar to a Glock safe-action pistol in both its design and operation, leading to some controversy and speculation as to the legality of its patents.
Created in 1994, it also incorporates a self-cocking, or striker fired, which is close, but not the same as double action only firing mechanism, so that the pistol can be fired without delay or preparation.
This is the 1st generation of Sigma pistols, having the longer 4.5 inch barrel.
The left side of the slide is stamped with the maker’s name and model and the right side is stamped ‘Caution: Capable of firing with magazine removed’.
Its grip is stamped on both sides with S&W trademark.
The serial number ‘PAC8274’ and its bar code are stamped on the plastic frame beneath the barrel.
The magazine is also stamped with the maker’s name and logo. The same warning stamped on the slide can be seen on the magazine, along with the pistol’s calibre, 9mm.
The pistol comes in its original blue plastic case with S&W logo embossed on the lid.
The buyer’s receipt, user’s manual and its “Registration card” are present.
The box comes with the manufacturer’s stickers on it.
