~ Victorian Chief Yeoman Warders Hat 5th Royal Irish Lancers Known Owner ~
The upper underside of the hat is stamped “English Manufacture” and “Christys’ London”. Christys were established in 1773 and are still a flourishing hatters business.
It has a label giving the hat size of a UK 7.
Penned inside is the owners name ‘C. Taylor Chief Warder’ who was a member of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, the hat comes with his military cap badge, he fought in the 2nd Boer War. We know this as we had his, now sold, pith helmet.
The hat ribbon is included.
~ Yeomen Warders ~
The Yeomen Warders of His Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Members of the Sovereign’s Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard Extraordinary, popularly known as the Beefeaters, are ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London. In principle they are the palace guard, responsible for looking after any prisoners in the Tower, and safeguarding the British crown jewels. They have also conducted guided tours of the Tower since the Victorian era.
All warders are retired from the British Armed Forces and must be former warrant officers with at least 22 years of service. They must also hold the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The garrison consists of 32 (formerly 37) Yeomen Warders and one Chief Warder.
~ Condition ~
Please refer to the images for the condition. There is light wear and a couple of moth holes. The ribbon is on the short side. The cap badge is in good order.

The hat measures 34 cm (13.25 inches) fore to aft.
