~ Victorian Opaque Glass Rolling Pin c.1860 ~
This is a beautiful hand blown opaque glass rolling pin bearing the remnants of painted foliate decoration. It has the typical cylindrical form with knopped ends with a small hole to one end.
Decorated glass rolling pins were generally given as gifts by sailors to their wives and girlfriends. They were usually colourfully decorated with a sailing ship and words of endearment or a date. One end of the pin always has a small hole in it, the reason for this was to fill the pin with warm water to assist in the rolling of pastry.
~ Dimensions ~
The rolling pin measures 13.5 inches (34cm) long and is approximately 2 inches (5cm) in diameter. The rolling pin weighs 240g.
~ Condition ~
The rolling pin is in decent antique condition. The glass is free from cracks. The painted flowers are very worn.
