Deactivated Rare G Code Luger P08 9mm Pistol. Full matching numbers (except magazine) in very good original condition made by Mauser during the secret Nazi armament build in preparation for WWII. Serial number 9273. 9mm Cal. 4″ barrel length. Serial number 9273 is stamped on the frame before the barrel, and under the barrel and the abbreviated 73 is also written. The barrel is stamped with a “G” which is the German code for Mauser “S/42” “G” Code German Military Contract 1935. The 3 Waffenhampts acceptance stamps (and dropped winged Eagle), 2 over 63, on the right of the receiver are consistent with Mauser Military Proof G date and later models. The toggle mark is the logo DWM. The luger safety mark “Gesichert” is the 1908 type safety marking used on most models made after 1908. The magazine is stamped with a cross 9273 and a waffenhampt 63 and is a cast aluminum bottom consistent with production from 1923-1945.
The Luger, also known as the Luger P08, is a toggle-locked, recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol. It was manufactured in various models by multiple nations between 1898 and 1949. Georg Luger patented the original design, aiming to enhance the Borchardt C-93 pistol. Initially, it was produced by the German company Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) as the Parabellum Automatic Pistol, Borchardt-Luger System. DWM ceased to exist as a stand alone company when they merged into Mauser works in 1930. All DWM marked pistols and parts were utilised in some hybrid DWM/Mauser models.
The Luger found official adoption by the Swiss military in 1900, the Imperial German Navy in 1906, and the German Army in 1908. In 1908, the German Army replaced the Reichs revolver with the DWM Parabellum pistol, naming it Pistole Modell 1908 (P08) Parabellum.
