~ c1900 Windsor & Newton Glass Advertising Sign ~
A superb quality original early 20th century mahogany and glass advertising sign for the fine art materials company Windsor & Newton (est.
1832).
The sign would have hung in an art supply shop to advertise the product in the early 1900’s.
The sign reads ‘Windsor & Newton’s Artists’ Materials’. The mirrored letters are two dimensionally painted in gold and black upon a white ground
on glass with a layer of glass on top which has kept the lettering clean and crisp as the day it was made.
The glass sign is in a mahogany lintel style frame with fluted corbels to each top corner.
It has two hooks for hanging to the reverse.
~ Dimensions ~
The glass sign measures 127cm (50 inches) by 12cm (4 ¾ inches).
The frame measures 148cm (58 inches) by 28cm (11 inches).
It weighs 7 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The glass and lettering are in a superb condition with no damages.
The wood frame is in a very good order with just a few nicks and dents here and there as would be expected from a piece of this age, but there
are no significant damages.
