The Sailors & Soldiers Christmas Fund was created by Princess Mary, daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. This was made to provide everyone wearing the King’s uniform and serving overseas on Christmas Day 1914 with a “gift from the nation”. The box would have contained a variety of gifts for smokers, non-smokers, Indian troops, nurses and families who had lost loved ones.
*Condition*
The box is in very good condition for its age. It has a small patch of oxidisation in the corner of the lid but other than that it has no significant marks or scratches. Please see pictures for more detail as these form part of our condition report.
