~ Dollond 3 Draw Leather Bound Brass Signalling Telescope ~
A Victorian era leather bound brass signalling telescope by Dollond of London.
Dollond, founded by father and son John & Peter Dolland were probably the most well known and most respected English makers of
optical instruments during the 18th & 19th centuries.
The three draw brass telescope is marked ‘Dollond London “Signalling” No. 12772’ to the first draw.
The eyepieces on these telescopes were interchangeable, this particular one fitted on the telescope is marked ‘Low’.
The telescope as mentioned, is bound in brown leather and comes with removable lens covers.
~ Dimensions ~
The objective lens has a diameter of 5.5cm (2 ¼ inches).
The telescope has a length when compacted of 26.5cm (10 ½ inches) and a length when fully extended of 79cm (31 inches).
It weighs 1.16 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The extending element of the telescope is in working order with just a couple of quirks: One of the draws is a little stiff when trying to
extend and the third (from the eyepiece) is a little ‘wobbly’, so it doesn’t slide smoothly back into place.
The leather is in decent condition with general age wear and a couple of areas where the stitching has come undone slightly. One of
the fittings that hold the end covers in place is missing.
