~ c1927 Sterling Silver Movado Purse Pocket Watch ~
A delightful sterling silver cased purse watch/clock by the Swiss watch specialists Movado.
The watch is designed to be set on a chain and be kept in a mans waistcoat pocket. So called as it looks somewhat like a ladies purse, or
maybe because it could easily be kept in a ladies purse. Its simple and elegant design means than it could have been used by both
women and men.
The watch has a plain silver case, resembling a vesta case. The two sliding halves pull apart to reveal the watch within.
The watch has a square form cream dial with luminous Arabic numerals, two luminous hands and an outer minutes ring.
The dial is named ‘Movado’.
The watch has a manual movement, with the winding crown mounted at the top of the bezel above the 12 o’clock position.
The watch reverse has various marks including patent information, ‘Swiss Made’ the serial no. ‘0935’ and has an inscription in
French(?), reading ‘Trevor, En Souvenir, Ursula’ and dated ‘Nov 1928’.
The watch has the import sterling silver mark for London, 1927 with a makers stamp of ‘GS’.
~ Dimensions ~
The dial measures 2.2cm by 2.2cm.
The watch when closed measures 3.3cm by 4.3cm by 1.2cm and when open measures 7cm in length.
It weighs 57.5g.
~ Condition ~
The case has some light wear and a couple of tiny dings commensurate with age and use, but the dial remains clean with no issues.
One half of the case has a tendency, if pulled too hard to come away (see image), but this is a small issue and just needs a little tweak
to secure it.
The watch is in good working order.
