~ Pair Of Late 16th Century Finely Etched Gilt German Tassets Leg Armour ~

Designed to protect the upper thigh, this superb pair is made of four laminars riveted together and with the original leather backing straps. The upper section has a 'rope' edge rim. To the centre of each laminar are foliate swirls over a stippled background, all within a Greek key border. Traces of a gilt gold finish can be seen under the deep patination.
