Description

*German, WWII, Heer Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss Sleeve Insignia, BeVo Woven Mountain Troops Qualification Badge, Dark Green Backing, Removed Uniform Example*

A good original WWII German Heer Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troops) Edelweiss sleeve insignia, machine-woven BeVo type on dark green backing, featuring the traditional white Edelweiss flower with yellow centre, green leaves, and rope border. This was worn on the upper right sleeve by qualified mountain troops of the Wehrmacht and is one of the most recognisable branch insignia of the German Army during the Second World War.

Approx. Measurements – 5.5cm x 7cm.

History Note:
Introduced in 1939, the Edelweiss badge symbolised service in elite alpine and mountain warfare units operating in difficult terrain such as Norway, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and the Alps. The dark green woven backing is consistent with Heer issue examples rather than later post-war reproductions or Luftwaffe variants.

The Edelweiss had been associated with German and Austrian mountain troops since the First World War and became the formal insignia of the Wehrmacht Gebirgsjäger in 1939. It represented endurance, toughness, and specialist mountain combat training, making original wartime examples highly sought after by collectors of Third Reich militaria.

*Condition*
Original cut section retaining good strong colour and clear woven detail. Some loose threads and fraying to the reverse and edges from removal from a uniform, as expected. Displays well overall. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
