*German, WW2 - Dated 1939, Third Reich Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) Flag, RZM Marked, NSDStB Berlin*
An original Third Reich-era Hitler Youth flag in excellent overall condition, retaining strong unfaded colour and clear period markings to the hoist. Constructed in red cotton with a separately applied white lozenge and black swastika device, the flag displays the classic form associated with the Hitlerjugend organisation during the late 1930s period.
The reverse of the hoist is clearly stamped “0,6 x 1,0”, denoting the official size format, together with “NSDStB”, “Berlin 1939”, and an RZM roundel marked “M7/27.” The RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei) was the official control and licensing authority responsible for regulating production of political uniforms, flags, and insignia within Nazi Germany. The “NSDStB” marking refers to the Nationalsozialistischer Deutscher Studentenbund (National Socialist German Students’ League), indicating production or organisational issue associated with that body.
The construction is entirely period, with multi-piece machine-sewn appliqué swastika and reinforced hoist edge with original rope attachment retained. The cotton retains a strong vivid red colour throughout with good display appearance.
Approx. Measurements – 62 cm x 97 cm.
History Note:
The Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend or HJ) served as the official youth organisation of the National Socialist regime in Germany. By the late 1930s membership had become effectively compulsory for German youths, with flags such as this used at rallies, camps, parades, and organisational buildings. RZM-marked examples dated before the outbreak of the Second World War are particularly desirable due to their clear dating and documented production control markings.
