~ 1878 Minton Majolica Carnival Castle Jug ~
A large Minton jug with a single handle and an open spout.
The exterior is moulded in relief and hand glazed. It shows four medieval people dancing merrily in front of a grey castle wall.
The handle is moulded as a twisting ivy vine which grows from the lower to the upper edge, and spreads around the upper and lower rims.
It has an open top and was not fitted with a lid as some of the the other pieces were.
Stamped to the underside of the base is the Minton name and the date mark for 1878.
~ Dimensions ~
From the spout to the end of the handle, the jug has a depth of 7.75 inches (19.5 cm). It has a maximum diameter of 5.5 inches (14 cm) & a height of 9.5 inches (24 cm).
It weighs 1.61 kg.
~ Condition ~
The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. The glaze is crazed.
