~ c1900 Boer War Staffordshire Equestrian Pair Of Lord Kitchener & General Buller ~
This is a fine & imposing pair of Staffordshire Boer War Generals in the likeness of Lord Kitchener and General Buller. The figures are made of white glazed stoneware.
The figures have painted faces with rosy cheeks, black hand painted boots and some gilt detailing. The horses have painted mouths, hooves and expressive eyes.
The figures have the names “Kitchener” and “Buller” stamped on the bases and infilled with gilt.
Each figure has two vent holes for relieving pressure during the firing process – one in the base and one centrally located on the reverse .
The Staffordshire Boer War Generals figures were produced beginning in 1900.
Both are rare pieces but the Buller one, particularly so.

The Lord Kitchener figure is 14.8 inches (37.5cm) tall, 11.6 inches (29.5cm) wide and 4.1 inches (10.5cm) deep.
The General Buller figure is 14.4 inches (36.5cm) tall, 11.4 inches (29cm) wide and 4.1 inches (10.5cm) deep.
The total weight is 4.2 kg.
~ Condition ~
The bases have the correct degree of standing wear.
Both figures have extensive crazing across the entirety to the glaze.
The General Buller figure has a firing crack at the top of the horses tail.
The gilt detailing is worn particularly on the names.
