The Wilkinson Pattern Royal Naval Officers Dress Sword is a ceremonial sword introduced in 1846 for use by officers in the British Royal Navy. It is named after its manufacturer, Wilkinson Sword Company, which has a long-standing tradition of producing high-quality military swords and blades.
The sword features a distinctive design that is closely associated with the Royal Navy. The hilt of the sword is made of gilt brass and consists of a lion’s head pommel with a mane that forms the backstrap of the hilt. The lion’s head is intricately detailed. The grip is typically made of sharkskin or fishskin, wrapped with twisted wire for a secure and comfortable grip. The guard of the sword is an elaborate design known as the fouled anchor, which is a symbol associated with the Royal Navy. The anchor is depicted with its chain twisted around it, creating an intricate and decorative pattern. The guard extends down to form a knuckle bow that provides additional protection to the hand. The blade of the sword features a furled design along with a single edge. It is made of high-quality steel and is etched with decorative naval iconography – anchors, a six pointed star, foliage and the cypher ‘Crown G vi R’ for George VI Rex as well as the Wilkinson royal warrant cypher. Wilkinson Sword Company held a royal warrant from the late 19th century until the early 21st century. The scabbard attachment is engraved ‘J.W. Boutwood. R.N.’
The scabbard of the sword is made of black leather fitted with gilt brass fittings. There is also a black leather case.

Some minor rust to the blade but no pitting or nicks. The grip, pommel and guard are in very good condition. The scabbard is slightly worn on the leather but in good overall condition. The sword fits the scabbard nicely. The case shows some signs of wear and tear. Please see photographs as they form part of the condition report.
