Description

*British, WW2 era, Stiletto Dagger by J. Nowill & Sons, Sheffield, with Leather Scabbard.*

15cm narrow blade, 26.2cm overall.

Twin-edged stiletto blade. Brass cross-piece, antler and wood grip with red, gold and black decoration and aluminium pommel; in leather sheath.

Inscribed on the blade is “J. Nowill & Sons, Sheffield, England, Established A.D. 1700,” framed by a Star over D and Crossed Keys. This prestigious mark has its origins in the historical grant of a corporate mark, D*, by the Company of Cutlers on 27 April 1700, bestowed upon Thomas Nowill (c.1676-1704) as a distinguished “Maker of Knives.” This mark was subsequently inherited by his sons. In 1842, J. Nowill & Sons was formally assigned the D* mark and an additional emblem that would gain significant recognition: the iconic ‘CROSSKEYS.’

This stiletto dagger is in excellent condition with minor pitting on the ricasso. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
