~ A British Inter-War Wolseley-style Pith Helmet with the RFC Badge ~
he pit helmet is desert-grey coloured and bears the white canvas band around it with a RFC officer’s badge attached at the front and the flying corps flag stitched on the right hand side.
The lining is a Vero’s Detachable Headband type, introduced in 1925.
The inner lining is made of green wool with a brown letter sweat band.
The band is stamped 1915 and size “6 7/8”.
This is a rather strange example as it resembles more with a pit from a Wikipedia published picture of Sir Reginald Wingate posing with Wolseley-style helmet c. 1899, rather than with a WW2 almost flat top ones.
Buyer’s discretion advised.
~ Dimensions ~
The inner circumference is 62 cm (24.4 inches).
The length of the piece front to back is 38 cm (15 inches), its width is 28.5 cm (11.22 inches) and its height is 19 cm (7 ½ inches).
It weighs 500 grams.
~ Condition ~
The helmet remains in good condition considering its age.
The cloth is dirty, as expected. There are some green pen marks on its back, as seen in the pictures.
The green lining has some minimal moth damage and few stains.
