~ A Late Victorian Cased Four Piece Silver-Gilt Salt Set c1898/9 ~
A lovely late Victorian highly decorative salt set in silver consisting of four salt bowls and four spoons complete with original case.
The bowls are of delicate gilt lined silver, with stylised foliate decoration to the rims and inner edges.
The spoons have stick handles with ball ends and shell shaped gilt lined bowls.
The bowls are all hallmarked for Silver, Birmingham, 1898 with the makers mark of ‘EG’.
The spoons have the same hallmarking but are dated a year later at 1899.
The pieces are all one original set; it is quite common to find sets with pieces dated over a two year period.
The set comes in a black leatherette case with blue silk and velvet interior.
~ Dimensions ~
The bowls each have a diameter of 5.5cm (2 ¼ inches).
The spoons each measure 5cm (2 inches) in length.
The case measures 15.5cm (6 inches) by 15.5cm (6 inches).
The cased set weighs 205g.
~ Condition ~
The bowls are in a lovely condition with only light wear but no damages.
The spoons are also in a lovely condition but three have lost a little of the gilt lining to their bowls.
The case is in good order with only light wear.
