~ Circa 1860 Eight Day French Ormolu And Marble Clock And Garniture Set By A. D. Mougin ~
This stunning 8 day clock set is a typical example of the beautiful design of the firm’s 19th Century clocks. The set consists of a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra.
The back-plate has a serial number of 2357, VCMB and the Mougin trademark.
The clock has four gilt bun feet, a stepped marble base, four capped marble columns with a floral swag, the clock barrel surmounted by a marble vase with gilt floral rose display.
The clock itself, which strikes on the bell, has a white enamel dial with hand painted garlands, retailers name, scroll-work hands and a grill back-plate cover. It has a star burst pendulum.
The garnitures have four gilt bun feet, a stepped marble base, a marble urn support with gilt swags and a five branch candelabra with S shaped branches, the central one topped with a finial.
~ A D Mougin ~
A D Mougin was a well-known French clock maker working in the mid nineteenth century.
He is known to have made clocks in the French clock making region of Montbeliard (which is close to the Swiss border) and is also listed as having premises on the Rue de Turenne in Paris.
He won two gold medals at exhibitions for his clocks and used these as the basis for his trademark which contain the ‘Deux Medailles’.

The set is in superb, near mint condition.

The clock stands at 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) tall by 31 cm (12.5 inches) wide by 13.5 cm (5.25 inches) deep.
The garnitures stand at 51.5 cm (20.25 inches) tall.
