This is an early production Russian-made SKS with all visible matching numbers. Manufactured in 1951, the top cover features the Tula Arsenal's maker's mark. Soviet production of the SKS began in 1949, with Tula Arsenal producing the carbine from 1949 to 1958 and Izhevsk Arsenal manufacturing it from 1953 to 1954. In total, the Soviet Union produced 2.7 million SKS carbines.

The SKS (Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова, or Samozaryadny karabin sistemy Simonova, meaning "self-loading carbine of the Simonov system") is a semi-automatic rifle designed in the 1940s by Soviet firearms designer Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov.

Initially produced in the Soviet Union, the SKS was later widely exported and manufactured by several other nations. Key features include a permanently attached folding bayonet and a fixed, hinged magazine with a 10-round capacity. It proved to be a very popular Communist weapon seeing widespread use during the Vietnam War. Due to its lack of select-fire capability and limited magazine capacity, the SKS was replaced in the Soviet Armed Forces by the AK-47 during the 1950s. However, it remained in use for years with Soviet Border Troops, as well as second-line and reserve army units.

*Condition*
Fully deactivated to old spec. Does not cock or dry-fire. Trigger moves and magazine opens. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
