Description

*West German Army Knife (108 - GAK 1) “Bundeswehr”, c1980,  4 Blade Clasp Knife*

Marked on one side with an embossed “Bundesadler” eagle. The Federal Republic of Germany adopted the Weimar eagle as its symbol in 1950. Since then, it has been known as the Bundesadler (“federal eagle”).

A West German Bundeswehr Army 108mm four blade clasp knife (108mm closed), 84 mm blade with a 75mm cutting edge, saw with can opener, awl and five-turn corkscrew, green plastic grip plates. The 108mm "GAK" wasn't designed entirely by Victorinox, but rather by the Bundeswehr. In particular the wood saw with opener and screwdriver was developed in cooperation with the German army. Victorinox manufactured the GAK-1 under contract from 1976 to 1984, but there were a number of other companies producing the same knife as well. They were made from 1976 to 2003, with a revision in 1985 that added a file to the side of the woodsaw, as well as a removable metal guard to cover the saw teeth (GAK-2). This is an earlier model without those features.

Marked on the blade "St 80" "Rostfrei". "St 80" is a possible replica of Victorinox. (Rostfrei – Rustproof).

*Condition*
Some wear on the knife blade otherwise the general condition is very good. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
