Description

*Vintage Survival Knife with Modified British No. 4 Bayonet Scabbard – Compass Pommel & Sawback Blade*

This is a classic 1980s–1990s-style commercial survival knife, featuring a stainless steel clip-point blade measuring approximately 14.5cm, with an overall length of 27.5cm. The blade includes a sawback spine and gut hook, marked simply “STAINLESS” on the ricasso, typical of import survival knives from the period. The handle is made of ribbed black plastic or hard rubber, with a crossguard and a functional compass set into the pommel – a hallmark of the genre. These knives were widely marketed to outdoorsmen and survivalists, and owe much of their popularity to the post-Rambo survival knife craze.

The scabbard is particularly noteworthy – a cut-down and repurposed WWII British No. 4 Enfield spike bayonet scabbard, modified to accommodate this knife. It retains the original folded steel seam construction, with signs of heavy field wear, added stitching, and a screw securing the upper section. This field adaptation adds historical interest and is an unusual pairing seldom seen today.

*Condition*
The knife shows moderate wear with surface scratches on the blade and oxidation to the guard. The compass is intact and still responsive. The scabbard is heavily worn with rusting, a split seam, and general age-related deterioration, but remains intact. Please refer to photographs as part of the condition report.

A curious and characterful combination of Cold War-era survival knife and repurposed wartime scabbard – ideal for collectors of militaria, survival gear, or unusual field modifications.
